"In their own words"

“I want the players on my team to put their hearts and souls into it, because that’s how you win Solheim Cups,” said U.S. Captain Nancy Lopez. “Every player has to feel that way.”

Team USA’s passion carried them to victory, winning The Solheim Cup trophy for the sixth time.

The 2005 Solheim Cup was only the second event where both teams were tied entering the singles matches.

Christina Kim acknowledged the pressure she personally felt and voiced it in her unique way. “A lot of veterans told me if you puke on the first hole, it wouldn't be the first time, but as opposed to puking, I wanted to bawl my eyes out. I was terrified.”

In the first seven singles matches, the U.S. team was victorious in six of them and none went a full round. The final score ended at 15 1/2 - 12 1/2 and preserved the Americans’ 5-0 record on home soil.

”It’s unbelievable to play for your country,” said Meg Mallon, who became the all-time leading point earner in American Solheim Cup history during the tournament and made the winning point for the U.S. “These fans have been amazing …”
