World Golf Hall of Fame releases ballots for Class of 2012
New additions include Mickelson, Furyk, Roberts and Jimenez
St. Augustine, Fla., (Sept. 12, 2011) -- The World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum released the PGA TOUR and International ballots for its Class of 2012 today. Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Loren Roberts are the newest players added to the PGA TOUR Ballot and Miguel Angel Jimenez is the latest addition to the International Ballot, all four having met the qualifying criteria by the January 1, 2011 deadline.
The ballots have been delivered to their respective voting bodies, comprised of Hall of Fame members, golf journalists, historians and dignitaries from around the globe. The voting window closes in October and an announcement for the Class of 2012 will be made later this year. The complete list of candidates is below.
The World Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on May 7, 2012, once again on the Monday of THE PLAYERS Championship week.
"This is always a special time for the World Golf Hall of Fame," said Hall of Fame Chief Operating Officer Jack Peter. "The ballot process, along with the Lifetime Achievement and Veterans selections, is one of great anticipation. We look forward to unveiling the Class of 2012 and have no doubt it will be another outstanding group of golf luminaries."
Mickelson's career is highlighted by his four major championship titles: Masters victories in 2004, 2006 and 2010 and the 2005 PGA Championship. He has 35 additional PGA TOUR wins, including the 2007 PLAYERS Championship, and three international victories. He became eligible for the PGA TOUR Ballot after his 10th year on TOUR in 2003, and met the final qualification for that ballot when he turned 40 last year. To date, he has competed on eight Ryder Cup teams and eight Presidents Cup teams.
Furyk won the 2003 U.S. Open championship, has 15 additional PGA TOUR victories and three international wins. He became eligible for the PGA TOUR Ballot after his 10th year on TOUR in 2002, and met the final qualification for that ballot when he turned 40 last year. In 2010, Furyk won the FedExCup on his way to being named the PGA TOUR's Player of the Year. He has been named to seven Ryder Cup teams and six Presidents Cup teams.
Roberts became eligible for this year's ballot when he won the 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods Open on the Champions Tour. The victory gave Roberts 20 combined PGA TOUR and Champions Tour victories and PGA TOUR Ballot eligibility. Roberts has eight PGA TOUR wins and 12 Champions Tour victories, including four Champions Tour majors: the 2005 JELD-WEN Tradition; the 2006 and 2009 Senior Open Championships and the 2007 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship.
Jimenez's torrid 2010 season put him past the threshold of 50 career points needed for eligibility on the International Ballot. He won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the Alstom Open de France and the Omega European Masters in 2010 to give him 18 career victories on the European Tour. He has played on four Ryder Cup teams and has represented Spain 11 times in World Cup competitions.
The World Golf Hall of Fame Advisory Board can nominate for both the Lifetime Achievement and Veterans categories. Members of the International Voting Body are eligible to nominate candidates for the Lifetime Achievement Category. Both Lifetime Achievement and Veterans categories are determined by the World Golf Foundation Board of Directors.
