Gary Player made famous the quote, “The Harder You Practice, the Luckier You Get.” He said he shared that quote after holing three consecutive bunker shots while practicing in Texas and pocketing $100 from a gentleman who claimed he had never seen anyone so lucky! Here he has framed the quote along with a lucky horseshoe.

2. SUNSCREEN

Not forgetting to protect his skin against the sun’s rays, Player made always makes sure he has adequate sunscreen. Long before the general public became aware of the harmful skin damage that can be caused by too much exposure to the sun, Player was already taking precautions. In matters of health, he was a young man ahead of his time.

3. WATER, BANANAS, HONEY AND NUTS

Items typically found in Gary Player’s golf bag during a round of golf – water, bananas, honey and nuts. An early proponent of fitness and physical health, Player always placed ample liquids and foods in his bag to keep his energy levels at a maximum and his body hydrated during a competition.

4. CALLAWAY CLUBS

Along with the Black Knight’s hat is a set of Callaway clubs that he used in 2001 during his final appearance as a competitor in The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, the site of his third Open Championship victory in 1974.

5. GREEN BUNGEE CORD

Known as Mr. Fitness, Player is always prepared to exercise. Whether it is 1,000 sit-ups and push-ups a day or lifting weights, he is always reaching for extra opportunities to tone his muscles. Attached to his golf bag is a green bungee cord. According to Player, he runs with it attached to his waist each night while traveling in order to strengthen his legs and core muscles.
