PAGE 14, INSIDE THE LOCKER - Pete Dye, 2

1. CONGRATULATORY LETTER FROM PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH TO PETE DYE

Pete Dye earned the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s most prestigious honor, the Old Tom Morris Award, in 2003. The award is presented each year to an individual who, through a continuing lifetime commitment to the game of golf, has helped to mold the welfare of the game in the manner and style exemplified by Old Tom Morris.

The award was particularly fitting for Dye, who traces his designing roots back to Scotland, where Morris was the legendary Keeper of the Green at St Andrews.

2. MUDDY BOOTS

Rather than sitting in an office and looking over aerial topographical images of the land upon which he is designing a golf course, Dye designs his courses by walking the land and developing his vision for a layout. This pair of muddy boots is typical of how he returns from scouting a piece of property.

3. THE MILLS BROTHERS INSPIRATION MUSICAL CASSETTE

Pete Dye has designed more than 100 golf courses around the world, including THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass and the 2015 venue for the PGA Championship, Whistling Straits. Away from his work on golf course design, Dye’s musical preference is the relaxing tunes of his favorite group, The Mills Brothers.

4. DYE’S POCKET WATCH

Shunning the idea of wearing of a wristwatch, Dye prefers to carry a pocket watch. He carried this watch, embellished with an American Eagle, for years before depositing it in his locker at the World Golf Hall of Fame.
