World Golf Hall of Fame Member Jack Nicklaus has certainly earned his fair share of achievements. Perhaps none bigger came on March 24 in Washington D.C. when Congress bestowed Nicklaus its highest civilian honor: The Congressional Gold Medal.

The medal is an expression of appreciation to distinguished citizens. On the golf course, few can match Nicklaus’ accomplishments, which include 70 PGA Tour events and a record 18 Major Championships. Nicklaus, 74, has also been a champion off the golf course growing the game and impacting communities with various philanthropic efforts.

Previous recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal include actors, authors, entertainers, musicians, pioneers in aeronautics and space, explorers, lifesavers, notables in science and medicine, athletes, humanitarians and public servants.

Nicklaus, inducted in 1974, is one of four World Golf Hall of Fame Members to be awarded this honor. Others include Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer and Bob Hope.
